Artist Statement:
The idea behind Square Wave was to create a piece that resembles the movement of waves on the water.
The matte finished backside reflecting in the mirrored front side of the piece creates the illusion of movement as the viewer passes by, like the movement of waves on the water. From a distance, the view is more of a reflection of the surroundings and, close up, the piece pixelates its surroundings. All of the nine pieces are staked to the ground. Each piece has three stakes that are just below the surface covered with grass or mulch. The edges of the piece are rounded and smooth.
About the Artist:
I got interested in making art in high school and got serious about it in college. After graduating from a small midwestern college, I spent some time at the Kansas City Art Institute. I came to the DC area in the late 1970's and taught the Welded Sculpture Class at the Glen Echo Park from 1979—1984. I began getting in local sculpture shows such as the Alexandria Sculpture Festival & Sculpture on the Grounds in Rockville in the 1980's. In 2003, I had a one-man show at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. My work has been featured in shows from Key West to Connecticut and as far west as Kansas.
